Start with material compatibility
CO2 is a laser source category used in many engraving and processing applications, including selected nonmetals. It does not mean every material or thickness is suitable. Ask for the equipment manufacturer’s compatibility guidance and identify the exact substrate. A machine sold for engraving is not automatically qualified for every cutting job.
Define the intended operation
A stencil, a surface label and a cut part are different deliverables. Specify whether the job removes a surface layer, engraves a feature or separates material. Include edge and dimensional requirements where relevant. If a stencil is the product, show the final pattern and explain how it will be used so unsupported details can be reviewed.
Review the complete process
Ask about material preparation, workholding and the inspection included in a proposal. Where several materials are bonded together, identify all layers rather than only the visible face. Confirm suitability before supplying unknown sheet stock. Equipment guidance in this article is general; a project quotation should identify the process offered for the particular material and result.
