Choose the minimum necessary content
A short part or lot identifier may be more useful than a crowded block of text. Determine which fields are mandatory and which can be stored in a linked record. Do not reduce character size without checking how the mark will be read. If a code is planned, establish the data and available area before finalizing the drawing.
Protect the component features
Show threads, sealing faces, bearing surfaces and any restricted regions. The component designer should determine where marking is allowed. Provide dimensions and grip restrictions for workholding review. A round part may need orientation relative to a flat, port or other feature; include that relationship instead of leaving angular position unspecified.
Inspect in a relevant condition
A part may be easy to read loose on a table but difficult after installation. Identify when and where the information will be used. For batch orders, keep lot or serial data associated with the correct hardware variant. Define how parts are separated and reconciled during loading, marking and packaging so similar-looking items do not get mixed.
